Deal Scout

Privacy policy

Deal Scout lets people run their own shop of Jumia products. There are two kinds of people here — visitors, who browse a shop and click through to Jumia, and owners, who sign in and run one. We collect different things from each, and this page says exactly what.

If you are just browsing

When you click through to Jumia, we record:

  • which product you clicked and when;
  • a salted, one-way hash of your IP address — not the address itself, and not reversible back to it;
  • your browser's user-agent string and referring page;
  • the country your request came from.

This tells a shop owner which of their products people actually click. The IP hash exists so a double-click doesn't count twice and so obvious bot traffic can be excluded. It is not used to build a profile of you, and we cannot recover your IP address from it.

Browsing sets no cookie. You are not given one unless you sign in.

If you have an account

We store:

  • your email address, which is how you sign in and how your shop and links stay yours;
  • your name and profile picture, if you signed in with Google and Google supplied them;
  • the Jumia JForce affiliate link you paste, and the agent id inside it — this is what makes your commission yours, so it is stored exactly as issued;
  • the links and products you create, and their click counts;
  • your plan, credit balance, and identifiers issued by Paystack so we can match a payment to your account.

A session cookie is set when you sign in, so you stay signed in. It is not used for advertising and not shared.

Payments

Payments are handled entirely by Paystack. Your card or M-Pesa details are entered on their checkout and never reach us — we store only the reference and customer code they give back, plus a record of each payment event, so billing can be reconciled.

What we never collect

  • No card numbers or M-Pesa PINs — we never see them.
  • No advertising or cross-site tracking cookies.
  • No raw IP addresses in the click log; only salted hashes.
  • We do not sell or share your data with advertisers.

Analytics

We use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views without cookies and without storing any identifier that follows you between sites or visits.

Shops are run by their owners

Each shop at /s/… is curated by the person who owns it, not by us. Their affiliate links earn them commission. We host the platform and can close a shop that breaks our terms, but we do not choose what they list.

When you leave for Jumia

Once you click through, you are on Jumia's site and their privacy policy applies. Anything you enter there — your address, your payment details, your order — goes to Jumia, not to us. We never see it.

Retention

Click records are kept while they remain useful for the shop owner, and are periodically pruned. Account data is kept while your account exists. Delete your account and your shop, products and links go with it.

Your rights

Kenya's Data Protection Act 2019 gives you rights over personal data held about you: to access it, correct it, and have it erased. If you have an account, most of it is visible and editable in your dashboard. For anything else — including deletion — contact us and we will act on it.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the updated version will be posted here.
